TPS members, led by Judi Kubes, visited Seattle’s Kubota Gardens for fall color photography. Richard Thomas, Bruce Severeid, Bob and Dorinda Wills also attended. The forecasted rain had blown out of Rainier Beach by the time the group assembled in the parking lot. We then walked about on our own. Richard had pointed out where the trail maps could be picked up at the gate.

The sun popped in and out during the day, so we were able to enjoy the gardens and trails. The trees were colorful, and the pools and waterfalls were exciting subjects for our photography. The trails are both paved and gravelly. ADA access is spotty. Any season could produce fantastic landscape images.

The Garden is open every day of the year from sunrise to sundown. The parking lot opens at 7:30 am and closes at 8:00 pm. Kubota Garden is free of charge as is parking. It took about forty-five minutes to get to the park from Puyallup.

Kubota Garden is known for its beautiful colorful Japanese maple trees, reflecting ponds, flowering bushes, and red bridges.  The prettiest times to visit are in the Spring and Fall.  Parking is limited so try to visit during the week instead of the weekend.
