Membership Management Changes

Last year The Society voted to allow membership dues to be paid at any time during the year. The dues would cover a full year. There were several reasons for the change. The topic of this post is one of them.

In preparation for the coming year, TPS Member Accounts on our website will be migrated into our Membership Management Plugin. This plugin, Paid Membership Subscriptions, will enable you to directly manage your membership level.

This is a long post. Here are the Cliff notes. Please do read the full article.

  1. All current members will be assigned to the “Society Member” subscription level.
  2. Your “Society Member” subscription will expire after two months. Around October 1st.
  3. When the membership expires, you will no longer be able to participate in Society activities as a Member.
  4. You will be able to Upgrade, Renew, Cancel or Abandon your subscription at any time.

Membership Option Summary

Society Membership

A Society Member is a full voting member of the Society. Society Members may participate in all Society sponsored events which may include competitions and social gatherings such as the Annual Banquet. Society Members will always receive a discounted fee for such events should a fee be assesed.

Division Affiliate Membership

Division Affiliate Members are full Society Members who are also affiliated with the Society Divisions, Projection and Print. Division Affiliate Members may enter into events sponsored by the Divisions, such as Print and Projection competitions, which are not open to Society only members.

Online Competition Participation

The Society constitution and bylaws were not written when Online Competitions were a possibility and are therefore not specifically covered.

Until the bylaws can be amended, the TPS Board has decided that these competitions will be considered as Society Sponsored. To enter into the online competition you must be at least an active Society Member.

Managing You Membership Subscription

On the “My Membership” page the first tab is My Membership Status. It will look like this:

The entries are as follows:

  • Subscription Plan – your current subscription plan level. Only Division Affiliates can enter Division Competions for example
  • Status – you subscription may be Active, Canceled, Expired, Abandoned, or Pending.
Only Active subscriptions will be able to view content that is valid for a particular membership Subscription Plan.
  • Start Date – the date your subscription began
  • Expiration Date – the date your subscription expires
  • Actions – see below

The actions presented to you will depend on the status of your membership. If you are a Division Affiliate member, you will not be able to Upgrade as there is not a higher level membership. If your membership is not due for renewal, that action will not be visible either but you may Upgrade at any time.

If you choose this option, you will be given the opportunity to purchase a Division Affiliate membership.

When your membership subscription approaches the renewal date, this option becomes visible and you may act upon it.

By Canceling your membership, you will no longer be an Active member of the Society. Your ability to enter into competition and access certain content on this site will be terminated.

  • There will be no refund of membership fees.

Should you choose this option, you will not be able to register as a member or get back your status – we recommend you do not use this option – use Cancel instead.

  • There will be no refund of membership fees.

If you do wish to Abandon your membership, we will remove your WP account shortly afterwards.

If you Abandoned your membership because of a Fat Finger Event, contact the System Administrator on the Contact Us Page.

TPS uses PayPal as our payment gateway. Purchasing or renewing a membership will be done through the PayPal site. We do not keep your credit card information.

Key Items to Know

Downgrading Your Membership

If you wish to downgrade from Division Affiliate to Society Member, you will need to contact a membership manager, Rich Thomas, Heather Mack, or Dave Scott (see the Contact Us Page)

Upgrading Your Membership

You will be charged full price for the new membership level so if you have an active Society Membership with 6 months remaining, there will be NO credit for those remaining 6 months.

Initial Membership Level

When your account is transitioned to the new membership system, you will be enrolled with a Society Membership. The membership will expire 60 days after enrollment.

At the end of that time, you may:

  • Do nothing and let your membership Expire.
  • Or you may Renew as a Society Member.
  • Or, at any time, you may Upgrade your membership to Division Affiliate.

This approach gives you the most flexible way to manage your membership.

Life Members

Those members of the Society who have advanced to Fourteen Star Galaxy in Rank are Life Members. These members have been assigned the Division Affiliate Membership, but there is no Expiration Date to these accounts so… Life Membership.

  1. We actually paid for a 2 year membership, so our memberships do not expire until May-June of 2021. What will we need to do to keep our memberships active? Dorinda and Bob Wills
