PSA Interclub Competition Results – April, 2019

Round three results are now in for the PSA Projected Image Division InterClub Competition.  TPS has participated in this international competition for the last several years.

After three rounds, TPS is 20 out of 26 clubs. This year we are competing in the top competition group, Group A. This is a very high level of competition and we should be very proud to have reached that level of competition.

One of our members, Bruce Benson, received an Award of Merit for his image Reddish Egret. Congratulations to Bruce!

I’d like to thank the following TPS members for allowing us to include their images in the third round of competition:

Bud Harris –           City Bikes

Judith Lilly –          Emilia

Kathy Admire –    Nesting in Provence

Nancy Mooney – Pemaquid Lighthouse

Dan Suckow –       Taking a Break

Bruce Benson  –    Reddish Egret

We have one more round of competition for this competition year. I have just submitted our club entry.  Results for that final round and year end results will be announced in June.

Here are the images for your enjoyment.

2019 Annual Competitions

April marks the end of the Tacoma Photographic Society’s Competition Year. It’s time to look back at our Division Entries for each month since May of last year to select our best images to submit to compete in the Annual Competitions.

Any work entered in Division competition during the applicable competition year shall be eligible, but may be entered only once in annual competition.

Bylaws of the Tacoma Photographic Society – Article 12, Section 6 c

Rules

Below are the rules and method of entry into the 2019 Annual Competition.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an image must have been submitted to a Division Competition during the period from May, 2018 through April, 2019.

Assigned Topic, or Theme, is a Society level competition. Images which also competed in the division competition during the year may be entered into Annual Competition. Images which were only entered to Theme are not eligible for Annual Competition.

Adjustments to Entered Images and Prints

Members are invited to make minor changes to their work which may incorporate advice provided during the critique of that image or may be changes the maker thinks will enhance it.

Members should not make substantial changes to their images.

Number of Entries

Members may enter as many as 10 digital images to the Projection Division Annual Competition.

Members may enter as many as 10 prints to the Print Division Annual Competition.

Groups

Depending upon the number of entries, there will be two groups in each division. Grouping is determined by the average judges scores of all of the individual’s entries.

If you entered 12 images to division competition, and 3 images to the annual competition, the average judges score of the 12 images will be used to determine the group your 3 images will compete in.

The number of members entering and the number of entries shall both be considered when determining the grouping distribution.

Judging

As stipulated in the Society By-Laws, your entries will be judged by a panel of at least 3 judges. None of these judges will be Society Members.

Group Winners

In each group, in each Division, the Judges will determine:

  • One First Place Winner
  • One Second Place Winner
  • One Third Place Winner
  • At least 3 and no more than 6 Honorable Mentions.

There will be no ties.

Division Citation Awards

For each Division, the judges will select at least one, and no more than 7 images worthy of being awarded a Citation Award which best represents these categories

Projection

  • Outstanding Photo-Journalism
  • Outstanding Nature
  • Outstanding Pictoral
  • Outstanding Contemporary
  • Outstanding Use of Color
  • Outstanding Portrait
  • Outstanding Creative

Print

  • Outstanding Photo-Journalism
  • Outstanding Nature
  • Outstanding Pictoral
  • Outstanding Contemporary
  • Outstanding Use of Color
  • Outstanding Use of Tonal Contrast
  • Outstanding Portrait
  • Outstanding Creative

In each Division, Projection or Print, the Judges will select images from the pool of Division Winners created by combining groups in that Division.

How to Enter

Projection

  1. Make sure you are logged in to this website.
  2. Download your activity report from Your Society Member Page.
  3. Print the report.
  4. On the Projection Division Page, Circle the image titles you wish to enter.
  5. If the title is not correct, write it clearly on the page – or better type it with your image editor.
  6. If you are going to submit an updated/modified image, write “update” next to the title.
  7. Scan or photograph the page with your markup – this is your entry form – make sure it is legible and upload it to this field below (you must be logged in to view the upload fields). Please name the file using this format – MAKER-AC-ENTRY-PROJECTION.JPG – MAKER is your name.
  8. If you are not modifying any of your images, you are done.
The entry form upload has expired and been removed

If you make a change, you may upload the changed file. It will generate the email and replace the previous file.

Modified Images

The process for submitting modified images is basicly the same as for your entry form. The differences are that you must use the following file naming convention:

Maker_Image-Title_ACPoints
  • Maker is Your Name.
  • Image-Title is the title as shown on the form
  • ACPOINTS is the number on the image line under AC Points at the far right of the form.

You may upload 1 or multiple files to this form. Images with the same name will be replaced, so the last one submitted will be used.

The entry form upload has expired and been removed
Using this form

You may drag and drop the JPG image onto the form, or press SELECT FILE and search for it using File Explorer or Finder. Then press UPLOAD FILE. On success, an email will be sent to you and Dave Scott containing a copy of the file. A copy will also be saved to this website.

Print

  1. Make sure you are logged in to this website.
  2. Download your activity report from Your Society Member Page.
  3. Print the report.
  4. On the Print Division Page, Circle the image titles you wish to enter.
  5. If you are entering one of your prints for April, please write the appropriate information as there will, of course, be no entry in time for contest closing on the 18th.
  6. Write – FAIR or APRIL or OTHER beside each entry to indicate when and where Dave can receive the print from you. If you choose OTHER please contact Dave to arrange pickup
  7. Scan or Photograph the page with your markup – this is your entry form – make sure it is legible and upload the image to this field below (you must be logged in to view the upload fields.) Please name the file using this format – MAKER-AC-ENTRY-PRINT.JPG – MAKER is your name.
The entry form upload has expired and been removed

If you make a change, you may upload the changed file. It will generate the email and replace the previous file.

Deadline For Entry

All entries must be in the hands of Dave Scott by 9:30 pm, April 18th. This is the date of the April Print Meeting.

Spring Fair – Prints on display at the Spring Fair can be collected at the close of the fair on Sunday, April 14th. Please make sure your print clearly states that it should be given over to Dave Scott for Annual Competition.

Late Entries / Exceptions – I have allowed this in the past – results were a disaster – NO LATE ENTRIES – NO EXCEPTIONS

Announcement of Winners

As usual, winners will be announced at the Annual Awards Banquet on May 18th.

Results: January And December Print

December print competitions delayed

As most Society Associates who compete in the Print Division Competition know, our December meeting was canceled because of venue issues. Bates Tech was closed, and the fire hall was preempted by Pierce County so they could use the meeting room as their command center during the major wind storm.

With no place to meet, the competitions were postponed until the regular January meeting.

Here are the winners of the popular vote for the Assigned Topic or Theme Competition. The theme was Creative Portrait. There were 12 images entered by 8 members.
