Introducing Online Competitions

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade…

We are into week – – – lost count – – – of the Corona Virus Social Distancing order. No meetings – No competitions – No discussion

What a drag… Let’s see what we can do with an online competition followed by an online meeting using ZOOM.

Need for a plugin

With WordPress (WP), if you want to expand functionality, you install a Plugin. As we were moving and modifying the website. We decided to see if there was a plugin that was designed to support an online photo competition.

We found a bunch. We found not just photography competition plugins, but poetry, stories and recipes also.

After researching a few of the top 10 posts we found a couple of suitable candidates and settled on this one – Photo Contest WordPress Plugin. It shows up in a number of top 10 contest plugin reviews and comes highly recommended compared to the few others.

So… we invested $25 and we now have a tool to host an online competition.

The plan

This is a work in progress. We have done some scenarios in a test installation of WP and have launched our first balloon – Online Competitions.

Competition entries can be uploaded from Saturday, April 18th, through Wednesday, April 22nd. Judging – or in this case rating – begins on Thursday, April 23rd. On Saturday, April 25th, judging closes.

Complete rules are published on the contest page.

Sometime shortly after closing, the results will be revealed and we will hold an Online Meeting to review some of the entries.

Online Demonstration

On Tuesday, April 21st, 7:00pm, Dave Scott is hosting an online meeting to demonstrate the tool. If you are logged in to the site, here is the URL, Codes and Passwords…
